Heavy Rain, Wind to Hit Wednesday Afternoon

Weather forecasters are warning of severe weather expected to hit the area on Wednesday afternoon. 

Heavy rain is expected with a thunderstorm possible Wednesday night, according to the National Weather Service. A coastal flood advisory has been issued for Anne Arundel County from 4 p.m. Wednesday until 4 a.m. Thursday.

The weather service said heavy rain could come with wind gusts of as much as 36 miles per hour. Radar images showed a large storm system moving east and stretching from the middle of Pennsylvania down to parts of Virginia. 

In a news release, Baltimore Gas & Electric warned residents to prepare for possible power outages.

A Maryland State Highway Administration statement advised motorists to exercise caution when traveling.

“The combination of flooding rain and high winds could create a potentially treacherous drive home this afternoon,” said Melinda B. Peters, SHA Administrator, in a press release. “Motorists should not attempt to drive through high or standing water on roadways or try to maneuver around downed wires--- play it safe and turn around.”

Additionally, there is a chance of snow on Friday into Saturday evening, according to the National Weather Service. 

It's unknown how much snow will accumulate.

The weather is expected to clear up by Monday, with sunny skies and a high near 44 degrees—just in time for school.
