Maryland could see a dusting of snow up to 3 inches in some parts as a winter weather system moves through the state Friday.

MARYLAND — Snowfall ranging from a light dusting to up to 3 inches is anticipated for Maryland on Friday, potentially disrupting holiday travel plans in parts of the state.

According to the National Weather Service, a hazardous weather outlook is in effect for the Baltimore region on Friday.

Scattered light rain and snow showers were forecast to push east Friday morning mainly along and north of Interstate 66 and U.S. Highway 50. Light accumulating snow is possible mainly west of Interstate 95 and north of Interstate 70.

Additional rain and snow showers are expected Friday afternoon and evening as a low-pressure system moves through the state, NWS forecasters said. Additional light accumulating snow is possible mainly in Northeast Maryland.

While the Baltimore region will likely see less than an inch of snow, parts of far Western Maryland could see up to 3 inches.

While the rest of the busy holiday travel weekend looks to be clear and sunny, Marylanders may need to pull out their winter coats. Saturday will be blustery with winds up to 30 mph and a high temperature of 36. Sunday will be colder with highs barely topping 30 degrees.

Here's the latest forecast for the Baltimore region through this weekend:

Friday: Rain, mainly after 11am. High near 42. North wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Friday Night: Rain likely before midnight, then a chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 32. Northwest wind 7 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 36. Northwest wind 11 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph.

Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 22. Northwest wind 8 to 10 mph.

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 31. North wind around 9 mph.

Sunday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 19.
