Maryland Day Celebrated This Weekend With Free Events In Anne Arundel
Maryland Day will be celebrated this weekend. There are dozens of free or $1 events in Anne Arundel County. Here's the schedule.

ANNAPOLIS, MD — Maryland Day will be celebrated this Friday through Sunday with nearly 40 free or $1 events in Anne Arundel County.
Events include:

Maryland Day marks the anniversary of when European settlers arrived in the state on March 25, 1634. The colonists disembarked their two small ships, the Ark and the Dove, that day on St. Clements Island in modern-day St. Mary's County.

The state first recognized the holiday in 1903. Chesapeake Crossroads Heritage Area has commemorated the day for 17 years with festivities.
“This year’s event theme, Maryland Day for All, reflects on the historic cultural and heritage sites of the Chesapeake Crossroads Heritage Areas desire to highlight our diverse culture, history, and heritage have all shaped Anne Arundel County into the place it is today,” Erik Evans, marketing manager for Maryland Day, said in a January press release. “Each location has a different story to tell, yet it all weaves together into the fabric that created the communities, county, and state that we all call home.”

Attendees can download the Where in Annapolis? mobile application as an interactive guide for the weekend. The app also has Annapolis Quest, an augmented reality scavenger hunt in Annapolis. The scavenger hunt starts at the Visitors Center at 26 West Street.

Maryland Day Family Drop-in and Special Exhibition Tour
Join Banneker-Douglass Museum as we celebrate Maryland Day with this special Family Drop-In Day and Exhibition Tour. Attendees are invited to participate in a docent-led tour highlighting the museum’s current exhibit, REVISIT/REIMAGINE, a visual masterpiece dedicated to the Year of Civil Rights. After the tour, visitors are welcome to join us for an artistically crafted family activity led by a local Maryland-based artist. Visitors can also learn how African Americans throughout Maryland made lasting changes for all Americans through the museum’s permanent exhibit, Deep Roots, Rising Waters: A Celebration of African Americans in Maryland. This exhibition provides an overview of African American history in Maryland from
1633 through the Civil Rights Era.

On Saturday, March 23, the Deale Area Historical Society will open the Deale Museum and other historic structures located in the Historic Village at Herrington Harbour North.
