Maryland Pushes Envelope with Cybersecurity Employment

A new study shows cybsecurity jobs are booming, and Maryland is among the nation's fastest growing regions in the field.

The latest Cyber Jobs Report issued by the Cyber Technology and Innovation Center (CTIC) placed Baltimore City as third in the nation—just behind Palo Alto, CA, and San Francisco, CA—in the number of available cybersecurity jobs.

"If you’re interested in protecting the nation’s digital highway, Maryland is the place to be," said Gov. Martin O'Malley.

The study searched more than 340,000 cybsercurity jobs available across the country, and found Maryland had 19,413 job openings—of those, 13,000 were in Baltimore City. 

Anne Arundel Community College (AACC) has been planting the roots for cybersecurity training in Anne Arundel over the past few years, and they've expanded their course offerings. The college's newest location in Severn has dedicated space for training in the discipline of cyberforensics.

Students have also taken the initiative. For the second year in a row, AACC's team of cybsersecurity experts placed first among community colleges in an international competition.
