Most Expensive ZIP Code In MD Is Island Home To VIPs
A Maryland ZIP code is among the nation's most expensive. This island has been home to a Supreme Court justice and a game show host.
One of the country's most expensive ZIP codes is in Maryland, according to the annual report from PropertyShark, a real estate data provider. The 10th edition of the report is based on closed-sale data.
This year, $2 million was the minimum median sale price to make the top 100. Five years ago, fewer than 50 of the most expensive ZIP codes had reached that mark. Another sign of post-pandemic price acceleration was that 10 ZIP codes surpassed $5 million, according to PropertyShark.
The priciest ZIP code in Maryland is 21056 on Gibson Island, which overlooks the Chesapeake Bay. Located in Anne Arundel County, Gibson Island ranks No. 32 among the nation's most expensive ZIP codes with a median home sale price of $3.15 million.

Gibson Island dipped in this year's ratings. The town ranked No. 25 last year with median sales of $3.3 million.
The island has been home to VIPs such as the late U.S. Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall, former "Wheel of Fortune" host Pat Sajak and Godfrey A. Rockefeller, Patch previously reported.

Fifteen states contributed to the list, with 61 percent coming from California.
The country's most expensive ZIP code is now 33109 in Miami Beach's Fisher Island, where the median sale price was $9.5 million.
Fisher Island dethroned Atherton, California's 94027, which spent eight years as the nation's priciest ZIP. Atherton had a median sale price of $8.33 million.
