Crash Turns into Armed Fight in Hanover; Officer, Child Hurt
Police said a crash at Rockenbach Road and Route 175 escalated and three people were taken into custody. Two young children were hospitalized.

A car crash in Hanover escalated when one driver assaulted another, and a police officer was injured when she tried to intervene, according Anne Arundel County police.
The incident happened shortly before 9:40 p.m. Wednesday at the corner of Rockenbach Road and Route 175. Police spokesman Justin Mulcahy said a Suzuki jeep and a Mitsubishi Gallant crashed at the intersection.
Mulcahy said that after the crash, the driver of one car got out to check on the health of his two children, ages 3 and 6. That's when the driver of the other vehicle approached with a knife and began assaulting him, Mulcahy said.
The situation escalated further when family members of the assault suspect arrived at the scene, with at least one man taking part in the assault. The two men reportedly held the victim down on the ground and punched him.
A police officer arrived and tried to break up the fight, but she was also hurt.
Mulcahy said three people have been charged in the case. He said it was still unclear which person was driving which car.
Richard McCain, 21, was charged with first-degree assault and the assault on a police officer. Gerald Hall, 26, a family member who arrived at the scene after the assault began, was also charged with first-degree assault and assault of a police officer, Mulcahy said.
Riquita McCain, 21, was charged with hindering fire department personnel as they gave medical treatment.
All three of those arrested reportedly live at the 7900 block of Beach Plum Lane in Severn.
The driver who was assaulted was transported to Johns Hopkins Medical Center in Baltimore with non-life threatening injuries, Mulcahy said. His 3-year-old son was also treated for injuries sustained in the crash and another 6-year-old child was taken to Baltimore Washington Medical Center as a precaution.
The police officer was treated for minor injuries at Baltimore Washington Medical Center.
