Multiple Shooters Suspected At Memorial Service: Anne Arundel Police

GLEN BURNIE, MD — Multiple suspects fired guns at a Glen Burnie memorial service where one man was shot, police told Patch on Thursday.

Officers on Tuesday announced the arrest of Severn resident Philip Dean Bell, 30, in the case. Authorities, however, said Bell's gunfire did not hit the victim.

"Through the investigation, it was determined there was more than one shooter," Anne Arundel County Police Department spokesperson Justin Mulcahy told Patch in an email. "Bell was determined not to be responsible for the contact shooting."

Detectives said they executed a search warrant in Severn on Tuesday, leading to the seizure of evidence and the apprehension of Bell.

Authorities said Bell was charged with first- and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment and related weapons offense violations.

"We are still attempting to determine how many shooters were involved," Mulcahy said. "We are working some leads. Anyone with information is asked [to call] Northern District detectives at 410-222-6135."

Police said the shooting happened Aug. 18 around 7:45 p.m. in the unit block of Brooks Terrace Road.

Officers said they saw a large crowd and found the man outside suffering from a gunshot wound.

Medics took the victim to the University of Maryland R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, a press release said. The victim is expected to survive.

Authorities said they learned that a memorial service was held for the recently deceased owner of the house.

Police said a fight broke out during the service, and an unknown suspect shot the victim before running away.
