Pasadena Author Pens Book About Loved One With Alzheimer's

Fontella Bateman of Pasadena lost a loved one in 2011 who lived with Alzheimer's. Her book follows that journey and offers tips for care.

PASADENA, MD — In 2011, Fontella Bateman said a tearful goodbye to her loved one Sarah Henson, 88, a beautiful spirit who had disappeared before everyone's eyes due to Alzheimer's. The disease ravages memories and sometimes transports people back in time to recollect dated memories while the present time becomes fuzzier.

Bateman cared for Henson as her fight against the disease wound down and her life light slowly dimmed. After the pain and grief ebbed some, Bateman decided to honor her loved one and hopefully help others by penning a book about Henson. Entitled "Sarah's Alzheimer's Story," the book follows Henson from the hills of Kentucky where she was born through the journey of her life.

The book shares Henson's joys and sorrows, and reveals how even though memory loss is a large part of Alzheimer's disease, but Henson experienced so much more than just that.
