Police Break Ground on New Eastern District Station

The new station is expected to open by November 2014.

More than 100 county police officers at the Eastern District Station will soon be getting a brand new building.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held Tuesday afternoon at the site of the proposed 20,000-square-foot station off Pasadena Road. It is expected to open in November 2014.

At the ceremony, officers were joined by county officials including several County Councilmen, and County Executive Laura Neuman, who said investing in public safety was one of the most important things taxpayers do.

The existing station was converted from an old school, which created a few problems as the years wore the building down, including leaky pipes, cracked floors and tiny, cramped quarters.

The new building is being built as a police station from the get-go.
