Police: Copper Thieves Caused Power Outages in Odenton

Police have a press conference planned at 1:30 p.m. to discuss details.

Updated: (11:58 a.m.) – Anne Arundel County police said that power outages in Odenton early Friday morning were caused by people attempting to steal copper. 

The police department said it has arrested four people in connection to the thefts  Police said they have planned a press conference at 1:30 p.m. to discuss more details on arrests in the case. 

About 1,800 homes were without power overnight in Odenton due to thefts that happened at 1038 Annapolis Road. 

The suspects were also accused of thefts near Annapolis Road and Harding Avenue and on Evergreen Road in Gambrills. Most service was restored overnight. BGE's website reported no current outages as of 10:50 a.m.

This would not be the first time copper thieves were accused of impacting BGE systems. In October, police issued photos of a man they suspected of stealing copper from a BGE plant on Waugh Chapel Road.
