Police: North County High School Trespasser Made No Threats, Owned Guns Legally

Anne Arundel County police announced Wednesday that a man who reportedly trespassed into North County High School in Glen Burnie on Monday is also the legal owner of several guns, ammunition and a silencer.

In a letter sent to parents Wednesday, North County Principal William Heiser said no students were in contact or threatened by the intruder.

"I want to be emphatically clear that at no time did the man speak to any students and at no time did he make any threats to our school, employees, or our students," Heiser said in the letter.

Police charged Justin Matthew Beaumont, 25, of Glen Burnie with trespassing on posted property. Beaumont attended North County High School for two months in 2002, before transferring, and also served in the National Guard, according to police.

At a press conference at the department's headquarters in Millersville, police representatives and school officials said they wanted to be transparent with the community and prevent the spread of any further rumors about school safety.

"We wanted to put to rest any rumors or innuendo about this incident," said John Hammond, acting county executive for Anne Arundel County.

According to police, at approximately 1:45 p.m. on Monday, a custodian at North County High School witnessed someone outside rattling an exterior door. This employee reportedly watched the person continue to check the doors, and notified school administrators.

Police said as the school resource officer searched for the person on foot, the officer received a radio call that the person entered near the school's loading dock. Police later found out Beaumont entered by grabbing a door just before it closed behind an employee.

The school resource officer confronted Beaumont and escorted him to the front office without incident or contact with students, according to police.
