More than 60 people helped clean the park on Saturday.

Yesterday the young Restore Rock Creek group, an environmental group joined forces with the Project Clean Stream trash collection day that was hosted by Weinberg and Fort Smallwood Park on Saturday.

"We’re still waiting to find out just how much trash was collected, and this is the most that has ever been picked up on a clean-up day here," enthused park ranger Matt Grey.

Over 60 volunteers turned up for the event promoted by Restore Rock Creek.

"We were very pleased with the turn out. We had groups from the Ecology Club at North East High School, Koolhoff Earth, MD Yacht Club, neighbors, as well as many folks that follow us on Facebook, and from our general constituency," commented Janet Roessler the PR Coordinator for the group.

Jacob Kahn from nearby Fairview Marina provided a backhoe to aid with the collection and transportation of trash.

Caryn Canfield, Restore Rock Creek’s president, commented that the amount of trash collected doubled what had been collected at last year’s clean-up. "We will definitely be back to this spot, possibly this fall. There is still so much more trash to be picked up from this area!"
