'Sensory Trail' at Waterford Park Not Just for Sight-Seers
A new trail at Waterford Park in Pasadena was designed in part by children, in the hopes that those with impaired vision can better experience nature with a guided tour of it.
Imagine walking through a public park, being surrounded by beauty you can only be told about by a friend.
A new trail at Waterford Park in Pasadena was designed in part by children, in the hopes that those with impaired vision can better experience nature with a guided tour of it.
The so-called Sensory Trail at the park was unveiled last month, and is beginning to attract attention. A YouTube video tour of the trail was posted recently, showing children experiencing the sights.
"The trail encourages participants of all abilities to stimulate their senses as they walk along the .31 mile paved trail.  A guide rope directs vision impaired participants and gives them an opportunity to interact with nature independently," according to a press release from the county's parks department.
The trail was created by the Anne Arundel County Department of Recreation with help from the Parks' Youth Conservation Corps.
An official ribbon cutting for the sensory trail will take place Sept. 28 at 11:30 a.m. at Waterford Park in Pasadena.
