"The soccer game was still going on and I was just amazed at how de-sensitized we've become as a community, as a society," Annapolis Police Chief Ed Jackson said, according to WMAR. "Somebody was shot and the game continued."

WJZ reported that the shooting happened on Feb. 4 around 3:47 p.m. at a field behind the Wiley H. Bates Heritage Park, the Boys & Girls Club of Annapolis and the Annapolis Senior Center at 129 S. Villa Ave.

The Annapolis Police Department said the victim was shot in the head.

The victim was flown to the University of Maryland R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, Eye On Annapolis said.

Officers think the shooting was targeted, WJZ said, noting that the victim is "alive and alert."

"He was conscious and lucid," Jackson said, according to WJZ. "He wasn't able to say what happened to him but we did know he had been shot."
