ANNAPOLIS, MD — Days after shots were fired in Annapolis, police announced an arrest after a suspect crashed into a vehicle while evading a traffic stop.

An officer working overtime near Clay Street and Washington Street inside a building reported hearing multiple gunshots Sunday around 4:30 p.m. Authorities said they were dispatched soon after and found multiple shell casings.

No injuries were reported.

An officer on the scene briefly described the vehicle that may have been involved. Police said video footage helped them develop a stronger description.

Annapolis Police Chief Ed Jackson on Monday deployed crime suppression units around the city armed with the vehicle's description and possible tag information.

Officers said they found a vehicle matching the description on Tuesday and tried to initiate a traffic stop, but the driver refused to pull over and ultimately hit another vehicle.

Several suspects then ran from the vehicle, and authorities said "two individuals were captured." Police didn't release their names to protect the ongoing investigation.

Detectives are still trying to identify the remaining suspects.

Officers said they searched the vehicle and seized three handguns and a rifle as evidence.

"We are confident we have the right persons, and we will continue to work with the state's attorney to prosecute this to the fullest extent of the law. This remains a fluid and ongoing investigation. This was a targeted incident, and there is no threat to the public," Jackson said in a Wednesday press release.

Jackson said this arrest was possible because of the work of Squad B patrol officers, crime suppression personnel, the K-9 unit, Criminal Investigation Department detectives and the agency's camera operators.
