State Police Host 5k Run to Benefit Trooper Injured in Pasadena
Maryland State Police Trooper Jacqueline Kline remains in Shock Trauma after being hit by a car on Oct. 6.

A 5K run will honor a state trooper critically injured when struck by a car during a traffic stop in Pasadena earlier this month.
The "5K for JK" run is being held to honor Trooper Jacqueline Kline and her love of running, as well as to raise funds to help defray her medical costs.
Kline was awarded the Maryland State Trooper of the Year award by the Northern Anne Arundel County Chamber of Commerce this month in the group's 28th Annual Community Safety Awards.
The 5K race will be held Sunday, Nov. 10, at 10 a.m. at the Maryland State Police Academy, 6852 4th St. in Sykesville. Registration is available at www.5KforJK.eventbrite.com. A $25 donation is requested. Runners will be eligible for raffle prizes that include Ravens tickets, dinners and gifts from area restaurants and businesses.Â
All funds raised through the 5K for JK will go to assist Trooper Jacqueline Kline and her family with expenses related to her recovery, according to a State Police news release.Â
In the early morning hours of October 6, Trooper Kline was struck by a passing car as she was backing up another trooper on a traffic stop on Rt. 100 in Pasadena.Â
Kline was walking on the shoulder of the road when she was hit. She was propelled into the back of the K-9 trooper’s car she had stopped to assist. She struck the back windshield and metal K-9 cage inside the car. She landed in a ditch near the highway shoulder, police report.Â
Kline is still being treated at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where she is listed in serious condition. Her doctors see continuing improvement in her condition and remain optimistic.Â

Despite the optimism, police said Kline will still have a long road to recovery. Many of the expenses for her and her family will not be covered by insurance, according to a news release.Â
Her fellow troopers said they want to provide Kline with financial support and created this run in an effort to help.Â
"Trooper Kline is known as an outstanding athlete and a passionate runner," according to the State Police news release. "She was part of the Maryland Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics while a recruit in the State Police Academy. The 5K run will cover a course run by Trooper Kline and other State Police recruits while completing the six-month training to become a state trooper."
