Teen Charged in Fatal 2012 Pasadena Drive-By Shooting

County prosecutors are charging a 19-year-old with accessory after the fact for being at the wheel during a drive-by shooting that killed one man and injured another.

A 19-year-old has been charged in a fatal shooting that occurred more than a year ago in Pasadena.

The Anne Arundel County state's attorney's office believe Paul James Michael, 19, was at the wheel in a drive-by shooting in Pasadena that left one man dead and another injured on Oct. 13, 2012. Michael is charged with accessory after the fact, essentially helping another person commit a crime.

Matthew Morrow, 21, and Darren Costa, 20, were shot by a passing SUV while standing in front of Costa's home. Morrow died but Costa was able to retreat and survive, police said.

Anne Arundel County police identified the occupants of the SUV with help from the public: Michael was reportedly the driver and Ronald McLeod was the shooter.

In July, McLeod pleaded guilty to first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and armed robbery.

Then, the state's attorney's office turned its attention to Michael. Prosecutors said throughout the investigation, they tried to confirm what level of involvement Michael had in the shooting.

“These charges are a culmination of the tireless effort and excellent cooperation between the police department and my office,” said Anne Arundel County State’s Attorney Anne Colt Leitess.

Michael is scheduled for an initial court appearance on Oct. 28. He is currently serving a sentence at the Jennifer Road Detention Center in Annapolis on weapons charges, according to police.
