EDGEWATER, MD — A wood-fired pizzeria is opening soon in Edgewater, marking the chain's second Maryland location.

Timber Pizza Company will span 2,100 square feet in The Market South River Colony shopping center, which is anchored by Weis Markets. The exact opening date hasn't been announced yet.

The expansion comes less than a year after Timber opened its first Maryland outpost in Annapolis.

Timber Co-Founder Chris Brady is an Annapolis native. He founded Timber Pizza with his partner, Andrew Dana, in 2014.

The business started as a food truck with a mobile pizza oven in a 1967 Chevrolet pickup.

Brady and Dana then partnered with Chef Dani Moreira, a Culinary Institute of America graduate, and opened their first brick-and-mortar location in Petworth, Washington, D.C. in 2016.

Timber later added locations in Raleigh, North Carolina, as well as in Virginia in McLean, Arlington and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. The business still has food trucks in the Washington, D.C. and Richmond metro areas.

Timber announced its forthcoming Edgewater location on Friday alongside its realtors at Hyatt Commercial.

"We couldn’t be more excited to join the Edgewater community and bring Timber Pizza to this fantastic location," Brady said in a press release. "We’re incredibly grateful for the support from Hyatt Commercial in making this happen, and we can’t wait to share our love of pizza with new friends and neighbors."

The Market South River Colony has undergone some changes in recent years.

Kmart closed in August 2020, leaving a sizable vacancy in the shopping center. The Keith Corporation acquired the former Kmart space in February 2024 and opened a Tractor Supply Company in part of the 117,700-square-foot building.

The rest of the shopping center was acquired by The Reliable Group in April 2024.

Greek restaurant Chris's Charcoal Pit announced its move to the center in December 2022, a year after its flagship Annapolis restaurant closed following tornado damage.

"Timber Pizza’s expansion into Edgewater is an exciting addition to Market at South River Colony," said George Shenas, Vice President at Hyatt Commercial. “Their reputation for high-quality food and strong community engagement makes them a perfect fit for this thriving retail center."
