Traffic Alert: Lane Switch On MD 175 At Fort Meade

If you're driving eastbound on Annapolis Road at Fort Meade on Tuesday, you can expect single-lane closures guided by flaggers.

FORT MEADE, MD — On Tuesday, a state road crew will perform a temporary traffic switch onto a newly created lane on eastbound MD 175 (Annapolis Road) between Disney Road and Reece Road, according to the State Highway Administration (SHA), part of the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT).

The traffic switch is part of a $16.3 million project to widen one mile of MD 175 to a six-lane divided highway. It will allow the crew to work on the intersection of eastbound MD 175 and Reece Road.

This one-mile portion of MD 175 runs through the eastern side of Fort George G. Meade, the U.S. Army post that houses the National Security Agency, the Defense Information Systems Agency and the U.S. Cyber Command.

The workers will begin the traffic shift at 9 a.m. Tuesday. Motorists can expect single-lane closures on eastbound MD 175 between Reece Road and Disney Road. The traffic switch should be completed by 3 p.m. Tuesday, the SHA said.

Motorists driving on eastbound MD 175 near Meade Middle School will turn right onto the newly constructed eastbound MD 175 lanes at MacArthur Road (see map below).

Be Safe In Work Zones

Motorists in Maryland are urged to actively modify their driving styles to help prevent crashes.

Work zone safety is in your hands. Stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don’t follow too closely.
