GLEN BURNIE, MD — The pizza at a Glen Burnie Wawa was billed as "disgusting" this week by David Portnoy, as the sports personality and food influencer continued his Maryland pizzeria tour.

Nicknamed El Presidente, Portnoy is the founder of Barstool Sports, a sports and culture media company. Portnoy also reviews pizza for 1.41 million subscribers on his YouTube Channel, One Bite Pizza Reviews.

"Never really got the hype of Wawa. I know it's a Philly thing," Portnoy said of the Pennsylvania-based company in a Monday video reviewing the Wawa at 7124 Ritchie Highway.

Portnoy claimed Wawa had considered using him as an advertiser when the gas station and convenience store chain launched its pizza service in July 2023.

"I guess they thought about using me as an advertiser. They didn't. Never heard back from them. I think they went 'Jersey Shore' people, maybe," Portnoy said.

In his review, Portnoy mocked the hype, repeating "Wawa has pizza!" over and over.

"I'm glad they didn't use me as an advertiser. I wouldn't have done it," Portnoy said. "You know why? Because I've got to tell the truth, unless the ad was 'Wawa has disgusting pizza' because this is disgusting."

Portnoy rated the pie 2.8 out of 10.

"If we're just going looks, disgusting. And now again, this is a gas station," he said. "And then you go, it's like 'I think it's just a gas station with like a little food spot in the middle."

Portnoy also criticized the price of the $7.69 personal cheese pie, which is only available after 4 p.m.

"It's not cheap. It's six bucks, seven bucks for this," Portnoy said.

Portnoy's review, which has over 800,000 views on Facebook and 200,000 views on YouTube, is posted here.

"Wawa has disgusting pizza. Wawa has disgusting pizza. That's the tagline. Wawa has disgusting pizza. This is disgusting. Wawa has disgusting pizza. That should be the ad. Hey, at 4 p.m., Wawa has disgusting pizza. This is disgusting, Wawa," Portnoy said.

Wawa hasn't responded to Patch's request for comment.

Portnoy has been on a Maryland kick in the past few weeks. Last month, he gifted $60,000 to the struggling TinyBrickOven pizzeria in Baltimore's Federal Hill neighborhood.
