MARYLAND — Another round of snow is staring down Maryland, bringing flakes to the Old Line State for the second time this week. This storm should be weaker, but the blast of cold Arctic air enveloping the region is forecasted to maintain frigid temperatures for at least another week.

The National Weather Service expects flurries on Friday night to leave 1 to 2 inches of fresh snow over most of Maryland before the storm departs Saturday morning. Isolated areas may see 3 inches of snowfall, while the mountains could get up to 6 inches.

A winter weather advisory is in place for eastern Montgomery County and all of Anne Arundel County, Prince George's County, southern Maryland, the lower Eastern Shore and far western Maryland. Washington, D.C. and parts of Northern Virginia are also included.

"Light to moderate snow will overspread the area late this evening, then quickly come to an end Saturday morning," the NWS said in the advisory.

The advisory lasts from 10 p.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Saturday. The snow is expected to finish before the kickoff of Saturday's playoff game when the Ravens host the Steelers at 8 p.m.

"Be prepared for slippery roads. Slow down and use caution while driving," the NWS advisory said, reminding drivers that road conditions are available by dialing 511. "If you are going outside, watch your first few steps taken on stairs, sidewalks, and driveways. These surfaces could be icy and slippery, increasing your risk of a fall and injury."

A special weather statement is in place for western Montgomery County and all of Howard County, Carroll County, Baltimore City and County, Harford County, Cecil County and near western Maryland.

"Hazardous travel conditions are expected with air temperatures in the low to mid 20s and snowfall rates of 0.25 to 0.50 inches per hour," the NWS said in the statement. "Visibility may drop to one mile at times with light winds expected. It is recommended to delay any travel that is not necessary between midnight and 6am Saturday."

Temperatures climb above freezing and into the mid-30s Saturday afternoon, kickstarting the melting process. Gusts up to 21 mph will ensure the air still has a chilly nip.

Nighttime lows return to the teens Sunday through Wednesday, as the ongoing Arctic blast chills Maryland.
