5 Bel Air Nonprofits To Support This Holiday Season

Giving Tuesday falls on Dec. 3 this year. It's a day dedicated to supporting nonprofit and community groups. Here are a few to consider.

BEL AIR, MD— If you’re like many of your Harford County neighbors, you may spend a good part of the holiday season with your credit card in hand buying gifts for family and friends. Coming up soon is a chance to give back to the local community.

Giving Tuesday, which in 2024 falls on Dec. 3, is a day dedicated to supporting nonprofit and community groups. Since 2012, nonprofits worldwide have used the Tuesday after Thanksgiving to galvanize fundraising, rally volunteers and add momentum to their causes.

Maintaining funding is a constant challenge for many nonprofits that fill gaps and meet other needs in Harford County.

Here are five local nonprofits to consider getting behind on Giving Tuesday:

1. The Humane Society of Harford County: The Humane Society of Harford County, Inc., is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) charitable organization dedicated to the welfare and well-being of the approximately 3,500 animals that come to us each year.
2. Fresh Start Furnishings: Fresh Start Furnishings is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization in Maryland. We provide furniture and home goods to families and individuals that financially qualify for our program. Our current focus area is Harford County, Maryland but are happy to give referrals to resources in other counties when possible. We are currently the only organized furniture and home goods resource in Harford and Cecil counties.
3. Habitat for Humanity Susquehanna: Habitat for Humanity Susquehanna relies on financial and in-kind support to continue our mission of helping low-income families maintain their homes and/or become homeowners. Currently only 4% of our building materials are donated, the remaining 96% are purchased through financial donations.
4. Harford Family House: Harford Family House has been providing housing, support and resources to families with children in Harford County who have been experiencing homelessness since 1989. Over the years, Harford Family House has helped more than 2,000 people in more than 700 families, thanks to dedicated board members, professional staff, volunteers, churches, civic agencies, donors, business leaders and others in our community.
5. Extreme Family Outreach: Extreme Family Outreach is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit faith based, humanitarian organization that conducts Community Impact Programs to elementary & middle school aged youth in underserved communities along the Rt 40 Corridor in Harford County MD. Delivering a holistic approach to character building by providing lessons through interactive and innovative techniques, all which is a firm foundation for success. Extreme Family Outreach sets itself apart by being mobile, stepping into their world, bringing education, vision & hope.
