4-Month-Old Pit Bull Named Summer Safe At Humane Society After Being Dumped Along Road
A 4-month-old pit bull named Summer was dumped along Winters Run Road Saturday. She's now safe at the Humane Society of Harford County.
HARFORD COUNTY, MD — Good Samaritans rescued a 4-month-old pit bull that they witnessed being dumped along Winters Run Road Saturday.
Jonathan Izer snapped photos of the incident the second he realized what was happening and said the puppy appeared to be trying to jump back in the vehicle as the driver zoomed off. He saw the puppy's heartbreaking abandonment from his front porch and contacted the Harford County Sheriff's Office while he and other neighbors rushed to rescue the puppy, he told WJZ.
"It felt like a movie," Izer told WJZ. "It was devastating, really sad, just to watch the puppy run after the car, and they didn't stop or slow down or anything. It was quite heartbreaking. We're animal lovers, people do drive fast down Winters Run, and there's a blind corner there, and we didn't want to see her get hit. She just looked really scared."

The pit bull puppy has been named Summer and is safe at the Harford County Humane Society. She'll be kept as a stray for the mandatory 10-day hold then will become available for adoption. The driver of the vehicle who abandoned the puppy has not yet been found, but anyone who has any information about the incident is asked to call the Harford County Humane Society.
"It is a crime to abandon an animal, up to $1,000 fine and/or 90 days in jail," Harford County Sheriff Jeffrey Gahler told WJZ. "So we're asking people if they recognize the vehicle or they recognize the owner of the dog, we'd like to talk to that person and see why they would do this."
