Bel Air Driver Injured In Fatal Wrong-Way Crash On I-95: Police

A driver going the wrong way in the Express Toll Lanes hit a Bel Air man and his teenage passenger, police said.

BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — One driver died and another was injured in a head-on crash on the Express Toll Lanes of Interstate 95 Sunday morning in Baltimore County, according to police.

The crash occurred before 6:45 a.m.

Jose Carlos Oviedo Herrera, 22, of Baltimore, was driving a silver Volkswagen on I-95 south at the 62.4-mile marker, where he was going north in the southbound Express Toll Lanes, officials said.

Herrera hit a Ford-F-150 head-on, and he was pronounced deceased at the scene. Investigators said they had not determined why he was going the wrong way.

Police said the 36-year-old Bel Air man driving the truck was taken to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, and his 14-year-old passenger was also hospitalized.

Lanes on I-95 south were closed until approximately 10:45 a.m., according to Maryland State Police, which is investigating the crash.
