Chimney Fire Damages Harford County Home: Officials

EDGEWOOD, MD — A fire broke out at a home in Harford County on Friday, causing tens of thousands of dollars in damage, according to officials.

The Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal said a passing firefighter discovered the blaze at 137 Redbud Rd. in Edgewood.

Officials said 35 firefighters from the Abingdon Fire Company responded to the blaze, which originated in the home's wood-framed chimney. It took crews about 20 minutes to extinguish the flames.

No injuries were reported. Officials said the home sustained approximately $50,000 worth of damage.

The cause of the fire was ruled accidental due to an unspecified failure involving the chimney flue, officials said.
