Early Morning Fire Destroys Recreational Vehicle Parked Outside Bel Air Home

A fire broke out Saturday morning in an RV, destroying the vehicle. Investigators first thought the owner was inside but later found him.

BEL AIR, MD — A recreational vehicle caught on fire early Saturday morning while parked outside a home in Bel Air. At first, there were reports that the resident was in the camper, but he was later located.

The fire broke out around 6:22 a.m. Dec. 14 at the home located at 1919 Churchville Rd. The fire in the 40-foot Holiday Rambler Imperial was discovered by a passerby and extinguished in 10 minutes' time by 20 firefighters with the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company.

The resident, James Belyew, arrived on the scene after spending the night with friends and wasn't inside the camper as originally believed. Loss of structure and contents has been estimated at $10,000 by the Maryland Office of the State Fire Marshal, which stated that electrical failures, space heaters, kerosene heaters or refrigerators cannot be ruled out as the cause of the fire. They will continue to investigate the incident.
