Fire At Magnolia Elementary School Draws First Responders: Officials

An elementary school in Joppatowne is the scene of a fire Tuesday morning, according to authorities.

JOPPA, MD — A transformer fire at Magnolia Elementary School resulted in the school's closure on Tuesday and also drew crews from the Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company Tuesday morning, according to officials.

"We are waiting for MyBGE to de-energize the power so we can extinguish the fire," fire officials reported after 9:30 a.m.

Nobody was injured, according to authorities.

"Due to a blown transformer on the elementary school property and continuing power outages, students and staff have been relocated from Magnolia Elementary to Magnolia Middle School," Harford County Public Schools said in a statement. "We are asking any parents and guardians who can pick up your magnolia elementary student from Magnolia Middle School to do so as soon as possible. If you are unable to pick up your magnolia elementary student from magnolia middle at this time, regular bus transportation will be provided at the normal dismissal time for Magnolia Elementary School and students will dismiss from Magnolia Middle School where they will stay for the remainder of the day."
