Flash Flooding Thursday Leads To Water Rescues In Harford County

Thursday's heavy rains that fell in Harford County led to emergency workers carrying out numerous water rescues.

HARFORD COUNTY, MD — Emergency workers carried out numerous rescues Thursday afternoon and evening, with many roadways temporarily closed due to flooding. They also captured footage of one rescue after a vehicle trying to drive in floodwaters plunged into the ditch.

Officials and emergency workers repeatedly emphasized for drivers to "turn around, don't drown" and to not drive or cross flooded roads or sidewalks.

According to the Harford County Department of Emergency Services, the following rescues were carried out:

  • 1:43 p.m. - Pulaski Highway & Baltimore County - two people rescued by Joppa Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company & Harford County Department of Emergency Services Swift Water Rescue Team
  • 1:47 p.m. - 800 block Joppa Farm Road - vehicle searched by rescuers, unoccupied
  • 1:53 p.m. - 900 block Joppa Farm Road - vehicle searched by rescuers, unoccupied
  • 2:01 p.m. - Joppa Farm Road & Barksdale Road - vehicle searched by rescuers, unoccupied
  • 2:15 p.m. - Joppa Farm Road & CSX Bridge - occupants made it to safety before rescuers arrived
  • 5:12 p.m. - Philadelphia Road & Edgewood Road - three vehicles, occupants made it to safety before rescuers arrived
  • 5:46 p.m. - Philadelphia Road & Calvary Road - one person assisted out by Abingdon Fire Company - MD Volunteer Firefighters
