Flood Watch For Harford County Issued

HARFORD COUNTY, MD — With heavy rain in the forecast and concerns about flash flooding rising, the National Weather Service issued a flood watch on Wednesday for Harford County.

The flood watch runs from 6 p.m. on Wednesday to 6 a.m. on Thursday.

Heavy rain is expected to start Wednesday night and continue overnight, forecasters said. Rain may fall at a rate of 2 inches per hour, according to authorities, who said numerous showers and thunderstorms are expected.

With multiple rounds of heavy rain, runoff could flood rivers, creeks, streams and other low-lying and flood-prone areas, officials say.

These areas are under the flood watch:

• Harford County (northwest and southeast)
• Baltimore City
• Baltimore County (northern and southern)
• Carroll County
• Cecil County

Aberdeen, Jarrettsville, Eldersburg, Westminster, Cockeysville, Elkton, Reisterstown and Baltimore were among the specific areas noted by forecasters as potentially impacted towns.

The highest chance of rain in Bel Air and Havre de Grace (above 90 percent chance) is from 2 to 4 a.m. on Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

During the flood watch period, people should be prepared to take action such as getting to higher ground or avoiding flood waters in the event of a flash flood warning, the National Weather Service advised.

There is also an "isolated threat" for flooding and severe weather on Saturday, according to a hazardous weather outlook issued by the weather service.
