Library Adds Online Newspaper Database To Collection

The Harford County Public Library now offers access to more than 85 newspapers through the database.

World news at your fingertips just got easier.

The  is providing access to more than 85 newspapers through an online database Friday, bringing current events information and research opportunities to the community.

The database, ProQuest Newsstand, allows anyone with a library card to access full text newspapers from around the world, according to the library system.

The resource can be accessed free of charge at the library or from home.

The indexing includes bibliographic information as well as specific categories and geographic areas, making information easy to find, according to the library system.

"We try so hard to get this out to the community," Janine Lis, with Harford County Public Library, said Wednesday. "People's eyes got so big when they learned they could use these things for free."

Lis explained there is a licensing cost the library pays in order to access the database, but did not have the exact figures or the relative cost compared to other library resources.
