Man Shot In Edgewood By Person Riding In Same Car As Him, Police Say

Authorities said the shooting occurred around 3 a.m. on New Year's Day.

EDGEWOOD, MD — A man was hospitalized on New Year's Day after police said he was shot by a person riding in the same car as him.

Around 3 a.m. Thursday, Harford County deputies responded to a Baltimore area hospital for a walk-in victim reporting that he had been shot in the Edgewood area.

Deputies arrived at the hospital and spoke with a family member of the victim who witnessed the shooting. The victim, a 21-year-old man, was shot in the upper body and was unable to provide deputies with suspect information.

According to police, the witness said the victim was a front-seat passenger in a car that the witness was driving. Three other people were in the back seat of the vehicle, including the suspected shooter.

Police said the woman removed a handgun from her waistband and it discharged, striking the victim.

The suspect and two other witnesses exited the vehicle a short time later, police said, and the witness took the victim to the hospital.

Following the shooting, deputies searched the vehicle and found a loaded unserialized handgun along with additional evidence. An apparent bullet hole was also found in the dashboard on the car's passenger side.

Police said the suspect has been identified, but they did not release her name. Charges are pending, according to authorities.
