MD Weather: Winter Weather Advisory, Snow-Rain Mix Possible

A winter weather advisory calling for snow and ice in part of Maryland may be expanded, officials say.

MARYLAND — With the potential for snowy and icy weather in the forecast Monday, the National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for areas in western Maryland.

"The advisory could be expanded further east," officials said, advising people to stay tuned for updates.

The winter weather advisory is from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 27, for Garrett and western Allegany counties. Mineral County in West Virginia is also included in the advisory.

Up to 1 inch of snow and 0.1 inch ice may accumulate during the winter weather advisory period. Freezing rain is also a concern, officials said.

Drivers should expect slippery roads and weather that may impact the Monday morning commute in the areas under the advisory, according to the National Weather Service, which recommended taking extra care when walking on sidewalks, steps and driveways, as they may be icy or slippery.
