Natural Gas Leak Ruled Out Despite Numerous Reports Received

Emergency personnel and gas company officials determined there wasn't a gas leak in Harford Co., although many people reported smelling one.

HARFORD COUNTY, MD — Residents from several communities reported smelling natural gas in the overnight Saturday, prompting a response from emergency personnel.

The calls came in primarily from Fallston, Bel Air and Abingdon. Multiple fire companies responded to check out the situation, as did BGE and Columbia (TransCanada) Gas representatives. However, no one could find any gas leaks in the area.

Investigators said they believe the natural gas odor stemmed from a "source outside our region, and winds are carrying it throughout the county."
