Students, Community Can Use New Hardtop Court At Abingdon Elementary School
A new $98K hardtop court has been unveiled at Abingdon Elementary School for use by both students and the community.

ABINGDON, MD — A brand-new hardtop court has opened up for use at Abingdon Elementary School.
A community fundraising campaign to cover the cost of construction was launched to help create the only hardtop court for students to use at the school. The campaign managed to raise $28,000 in donations up until the coronavirus pandemic. After the pandemic, Harford County Parks and Recreation agreed to contribute $25,000 and then the school district received a $60,000 grant through the Harford County Health Department. The project’s total cost reached approximately $98,000 and was funded without using any of school capital or operating budgets, organizers said.
The hardtop court can be used for basketball, foursquare or pickleball and can be used by the community outside of school hours. A path also has been installed from the court to the playground, making the school playground ADA accessible.

"This hardtop court is an example of what we can achieve through collaboration, and it will serve as a space for students, and the community, to engage in healthy physical activity for years to come," said Sean Bulson, superintendent for HCPS.
