Road Closures Expected For Projects In Harford County

HARFORD COUNTY, MD — Construction has started in Edgewood on the new access road to Copperplex Athletic Facility and in Abingdon, with a third project planned to start soon in Forest Hill.

A new connector road in Edgewood has been designed to reduce congestion on neighborhood streets and improve access to the Copperplex athletic facility on Cedar Drive. Once completed, Ivanhoe Street will directly connect Cedar Drive to Willoughby Beach Road. The $1.26 million project should wrap up by the summer of 2026, county leaders say.

“This project will help reduce traffic in Edgewood neighborhoods around Copperplex by providing direct access to the athletic fields,” Harford County Executive Bob Cassilly said. “My administration is committed to projects like this that enhance quality of life for our residents and visitors alike.”

A section of Hoopes Road in Forest Hill between Gibson Road and Sandy Hook Road will be closed from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday, from Nov. 3–7, for a tree removal project. Emergency vehicles and school buses will not be allowed through the area during the closure. Drivers who use this road should follow the posted detour signs or make other arrangements, officials noted.

A section of Laurel Bush Road between Burgh Westra Way and Snapdragon Court in Abingdon will be closed to all through traffic starting Nov. 3 for approximately five weeks. The closure is needed to construct public water and sewer mains within the roadway, county officials stated. Emergency vehicles and school buses will not be allowed through the area during the closure.
