These Are The Best Schools In MD: 2024 Rankings

MD boasts some of the best colleges, high schools, middle schools and elementary schools. Here's how they rank according to several sources.

MARYLAND — Throughout 2024, various publications released “best of” lists to help guide Maryland residents’ educational choices, from the best elementary schools to the best colleges and universities to pursue a degree.

Maryland figured prominently in several data analyses and study-driven rankings for education from U.S. News & World Report and Niche, which provides rankings on schools, neighborhoods, cities and companies in the United States.

According to U.S. News, Maryland boasts several of the best high schools, middle schools and elementary schools. After comparing the 50 states and the District of Columbia across 32 key metrics, WalletHub determined that Maryland public schools are No. 3 in the nation overall. Meanwhile, Maryland schools ranked fifth in the United States for quality and fourth for safety.

In the 2024 Best High Schools list, Maryland ranks fourth among U.S. states and the District of Columbia. Among the 210 ranked schools in Maryland, 16 are in the top 5 percent nationally, 82 were in the top 25 percent.

Seven Maryland colleges and universities were named among the 500 "Best Colleges In The U.S." for 2025, in a newly-released ranking by The Wall Street Journal and College Pulse.
