U.S. Sen. Tim Kaine, D-Va., was the safe pick for Hillary Clinton's vice presidential running mate in November. Part of that safety is Kaine's low profile on the national stage. That has just changed — dramatically.

Kaine hails from an important toss-up state and offers his Spanish-speaking skills that would likely be a big asset in appealing to Hispanic voters on the campaign trail. Kaine made history in 2013 when he delivered a speech on immigration in Spanish on the floor of the U.S. Senate.

Heat Wave: Risking Illness Outdoors Saturday, Forecasters Warn

This is not the weekend to be outside playing Pokémon Go, or doing yard work.

A heat advisory will be in effect from noon until 8 p.m. for most of the Patch communities across Washington, D.C., Northern Virginia, and Maryland.

Heat index values, or the "feels like" temperature, will near 105 degrees due to high temps and dewpoints, according to the National Weather Service. >>> Read more.

Driver Playing Pokémon Go Hits Police Car: VIDEO

A man searching for Pokémon instead found himself face-to-face with the Baltimore Police this week after he hit a police cruiser with his SUV.

A police officer's body camera captured footage of the collision, in which a Toyota RAV4 could be seen sideswiping a Baltimore Police cruiser.

"That's what I get for playing this dumb [expletive] game," the driver said afterward, in the video. >>>Read more.

'So Cool!' Dolphins Visiting Maryland Waters

Much like Marylanders head to the beach in the summer, the warmer water has drawn pods of bottlenose dolphins to the waters around Annapolis and Ocean City in recent weeks.

Boaters have shared footage on YouTube of the mammals frolicking in the Severn River, as well as off the coast near Ocean City. >>> Read more.
