Trombone Emoji 'Womp Womp' Sound Created By HCPS Students To Go Global
Former HCPS students proposed adding a trombone emoji to the Unicode library and recently heard that it's been approved for worldwide use.
HARFORD COUNTY, MD — An image representing the sound poking fun at others, "womp womp," will soon be available to smartphone users worldwide thanks to students from the Science and Mathematics Academy at Aberdeen High School.
Their proposal to add a trombone emoji to the Unicode library has finall been approved.
The Harford County School District said former students Brendan Althoff, Brandon Brown, Dillon Capalongo, Gabriel Cardell, William Davis, Evan Demos, Nathaniel Dimick, Kristen Dorsey, Ian Leach, David Oguh, Christopher Pappas and Mark Rosser, with guidance from Science and Mathematics Academy Program Specialist, Sarah Ashley, submitted their emoji proposal five years ago. They just received word that it's been approved.

“This approval is the perfect end to a five-year journey filled with hard work and creativity. I couldn’t be prouder of these graduates for taking a concept and turning it into something that will now be used worldwide,” Ashley told WMAR.
