Van Crashes Into Abingdon Walgreens In ATM Theft Attempt: Sheriff
A stolen van backed into the Walgreens on Emmorton Road Tuesday morning in a theft attempt, officials said.

ABINGDON, MD — A vehicle crashed into the Walgreens in Abingdon in an attempt to steal the store's ATM on Tuesday morning, according to authorities.
At 4:11 a.m., officials said a crash was reported at the Walgreens in the 3000 block of Emmorton Road.
A silver passenger van had backed into the store and smashed the front doors, investigators said.

After four people got out of the vehicle and tried unsuccessfully to pick up and move the ATM from Walgreens, they took off in the van, which was later found abandoned, officials said.
Although one employee was there at the time of the crash, officials said the person was unharmed.

Authorities discovered the van about 0.6 mile from the vandalized Walgreens; it was in the 3400 block of Brooks Road, and investigators determined it had been stolen from Baltimore City.

The Walgreens is closed Tuesday following the crash; however, the pharmacy drive-thru remains open, a store associate told Patch. The store is expected to reopen Wednesday.
