Winter Weather Advisory Issued For Harford County

Here's when snow is expected to start in Harford County. The National Weather Service also gave snowfall projections.

HARFORD COUNTY, MD — As winter weather nears, the National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for Harford County and much of central Maryland. The advisory calls for snow, ice and strong winds Sunday afternoon through early Monday morning.

About 1 to 3 inches of snow is expected, and it will change to ice, according to the National Weather Service. Up to 0.1 inch ice may accumulate. Winds may gust as high as 45 mph, forecasters say.

Roads may be slippery, and people should be careful driving and walking outside. In particular, officials advise being cautious with first steps on sidewalks, driveways and stairs, which may be icy.

In Harford County, forecasters expect snow to start around 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday.

The National Weather Service is predicting about 2 inches of snow will fall across Harford County.

The winter weather advisory takes effect at 1 p.m. Sunday and runs through 1 a.m. Monday for the following areas:

  • Baltimore City
  • Baltimore County
  • Carroll County
  • Cecil County
  • Harford County
  • Howard County
  • Montgomery County

The District of Columbia and parts of northern Virginia are also under the winter weather advisory.

Saturday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 5. Wind chill values as low as -2. Northeast wind 6 to 9 mph.

Sunday: A chance of snow between 2 and 5 p.m., then snow and sleet likely. Sunny through mid morning, then becoming cloudy, with a high near 32 and low of 27. Wind chill values as low as -7. East wind 8 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. New snow and sleet accumulation of less than a half inch possible during the day. Rain, snow, freezing rain, and sleet before 11 p.m, then rain between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m. Chance of nighttime precipitation is 100 percent. Winds could gust as high as 45 mph

Monday: Rain, possibly mixed with snow from 4 to 7 a.m. High near 39 degrees and low around 25. The snow and sleet could be heavy at times. New ice accumulation of 0.1 to 0.2 of an inch possible. New snow and sleet accumulation of less than one inch possible. Winds could gust as high as 43 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent during the day and 30 percent at night. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Tuesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 34. Partly cloudy, with a low around 22.

Wednesday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 42. A chance of rain and snow after 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 28. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent.

Thursday: Partly sunny, with a high near 34.
