The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory for Harford County, where snow could make the commute challenging.

HARFORD COUNTY, MD — The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for parts of Maryland, including Harford County.

About 2 to 5 inches of snow may accumulate during the advisory period, which runs from Friday to Saturday afternoon and may affect the Friday night commute.

Roads may be slippery, so drivers should slow down and be extra careful, officials advise.

These counties are under the winter weather advisory from 4 p.m. Friday to 1 p.m. Saturday:

  • Harford County
  • Anne Arundel County
  • Cecil County

People should also watch their first steps on sidewalks, driveways and stairs, which could be icy and slippery.

Here is the forecast for Harford County, according to the National Weather Service:

Friday: Snow likely before 2 p.m., then snow, possibly mixed with rain. High near 37. Calm wind becoming north 5 to 9 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New snow accumulation of less than 0.5 inch possible.

Friday Night: Snow. Low around 17. North wind 8 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 32 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. New snow accumulation of less than 1 inch possible.

Saturday: Snow showers, mainly before 11am. High near 25. Blustery, with a northwest wind 17 to 21 mph, with gusts as high as 41 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New snow accumulation of less than 1 inch possible.

Saturday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 11. Northwest wind 13 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 37 mph.

Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 30.

Sunday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 19.

Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 37.

Monday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 22.
