12th Grader Resonates Kindness As Volunteer: Bethesda Star Student

Along with her academic excellence, Bethesda-Chevy Chase 12-grader Kamalani volunteers in the community. Here's why she is a star student.

BETHESDA, MD — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.

This submission comes from Mariah Soriano, who nominated Kamalani, a 12-grader at Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School. Kamalani maintains academic excellence while volunteering in the community.

Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?

In addition to maintaining academic excellence and actively participating in various extracurricular activities at school, Kamalani has contributed to her community through volunteerism with various non-profit organizations that focus on supportive resources to community members when they need it the most. Examples include the Girl Scouts of America, MS Society, Prevention of Blindness Society of Metro Washington, Emerging Scholars, and most recently Helping Hands Against Hunger where she delivered door-to-door groceries to physically disabled senior citizens. Kamalani thrives by helping others in a most compassionate, thoughtful, and kind way.
