ABC7: Norwood's Lawyers Won't File Insanity Plea Monday

ABC7 is reporting that the defense team for Brittany Norwood, the woman at Bethesda's Lululemon store, won't enter an insanity plea Monday.

At a Montgomery County Circuit Court Judge Robert Greenberg imposed a Sept. 12 deadline for Norwood's lawyers to file a not criminally responsible plea, Maryland's version of the insanity defense.

Norwood's lawyers have previously stated that they would "likely" file a not criminally responsible plea. Late last month, they asked Greenberg to postpone Norwood's Oct. 24 trial date to allow for more time to develop an insanity defense, but the judge the request.

Citing an anonymous source, ABC7 reported the defense team will not file the papers with the judge Monday. Patch has not confirmed this information. A call to Norwood's lawyers was not immediately returned.

Police and prosecutors have accused Norwood, 29, of killing her co-worker, Jayna Murray, 30, and then and staging the crime scene to make it appear as though the two women had been attacked.
