Espionage Charges Levied Against MD Man For Sharing Top Secret Files
A former federal employee faces a possible sentence of death or of up to life in prison for taking top secret national defense information and giving it to an official with a foreign government, according to a criminal complaint unsealed Friday by the Justice Department.
Adnan Syed Asks Maryland AG To Investigate Case Prosecutors: Report
Adnan Syed, whose murder conviction in the 1999 slaying of Hae Min Lee remains in limbo, called on Maryland Attorney General Anthony Brown to investigate possible prosecutorial misconduct in his case documented on the hit podcast "Serial," according to multiple reports.

Killer's 'Hunting Ground' Is Nationwide: Rachel Morin's Brother
Rachel Morin's killer remains on the loose and his "hunting ground" is the entire nation, Morin's brother Michael Morin said in an interview on "Dan Abrams Live." Authorities have said they believe a serial killer is responsible for Morin's death. Michael Morin emphasized the importance of quickly identifying the man investigators believe killed Rachel Morin in early August.

Man Sends Child Porn To Undercover Cop, Faces Charges: Police
A Maryland man has been arrested for distributing child pornography to an undercover police officer. Aaron Davis, 32, has been arrested and charged with transportation of child pornography. According to the Metropolitan Police Department, the undercover police officer was working for the Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force.
MD Man Charged In Jan. 6 Attack On U.S. Capitol
Another Maryland man was arrested on felony and misdemeanor charges, including assaulting a police officer, in connection with the riots at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. Steven Patrick Cook, 24, was charged in a criminal complaint with two felony offenses of assaulting, resisting, or impeding police officers and obstruction of law enforcement during civil disorder, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.
Prosecutor Argues Teen An 'Extreme Danger' After Shooting Student
Prosecutors argued in court that the 17-year-old boy charged with killing 16-year-old Jayda Medrano-Moore outside DuVal High School in Lanham is an "extreme danger" to the community. Bail has been denied for the 17-year-old. Medrano-Moore of Greenbelt died from a gunshot wound.
Fireworks Accident Kills MD Man: State Fire Marshal
A St. Mary's County man died Sept. 16 when a fireworks mortar exploded as he held the launch tube, according to the state fire marshal's office. This is the second fireworks-related death this year in Maryland.
MD Caretaker Gets Prison Time In Death Of Dementia Patient
A former nursing assistant was sentenced to 25 years in prison for her role in the death of a 75-year-old patient at Autumn Lake Health Care Post Acute Care Center in Baltimore, according to state Attorney General Anthony Brown. A Baltimore Circuit Court judge sentenced Obiageriaku Iheanacho, 36, to 25 years with all but seven years suspended
MD School Shooting Threat Called In By 12-Year-Old N.C. Boy: Police
Detectives have identified a juvenile in North Carolina as the suspect they say called in a school shooting threat to Laurel Elementary School. On Sept. 15, staff received an anonymous call threatening a shooting at the school; the school was immediately placed on lockdown.

Man Charged In Rape Cold Case: Prosecutor
A man has been arraigned on charges stemming from a 2014 cold case involving the sexual assault of a stranger. On July 6, 2014, Dawayne Joseph Spriggs, 37, ran into the victim near the Minnesota Avenue Metro station. Spriggs followed her and physically and sexually assaulted her in an alley.
College Student Killed While Kayaking On Potomac River: Officials
A Columbia University student died Sunday after she became trapped under a rock while kayaking on the Potomac River in Montgomery County, officials said. A woman kayaking with about two dozen other people became pinned “under a rock (in hydraulics)" during the trip.
