Bethesda Apartment Fire Hospitalizes One Resident

The fire at the Kenwood Apartments Sunday morning was on the 12th floor. The cause is undetermined.

BETHESDA, MD — A fire on the 12th floor of a Bethesda apartment building Sunday morning is under investigation and the cause is still unknown, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Spokesperson Pete Piringer said on Twitter.

When firefighters arrived at the Kenwood Apartments, they helped one homebound resident evacuate. That person was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation, Piringer said.

Other residents evacuated and more than 85 firefighters respond to the scene.

A few apartments were affected by the smoke and water, but most residents were able to return home, WTOP reported. There is an estimated $150,000 in damage, said Piringer.

River Road was temporarily closed between Little Falls Parkway and Dorsey Road while firefighters were on site.
