Chevy Chase Crash Injuries Cause Woman's Death Months Later
Mary Frances Walsh, 61, died earlier this month after complications related to her injuries from a single-car crash on Montgomery Ave.
CHEVY CHASE, MD — A woman who was injured in a single-car crash on Montgomery Avenue Sept. 23 died Feb. 3 from complications related to her injuries, Montgomery County Police said.
Mary Frances Walsh, 61, was driving on Montgomery Avenue in Chevy Chase near East West Highway in September when she lost control of her Audi Q5 and crashed into a tree, police said in a news release. Police Officer R.A. Felix-Fortuna came across the accident while he was off duty and stopped to help, cutting Walsh's seatbelt and pulling her out of the car with the help of a Good Samaritan, the news release says.
There was a 13-year-old in the car as well who was able to get out right after the crash, authorities said. The front of the car was in flames and the inside was filled with smoke, the news release said.

Walsh and the child were taken to the hospital. Walsh had been receiving treatment for injuries since the accident and was admitted to a hospital in February for complications related to the injuries from the crash, a news release said.
The Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating the crash and has asked anyone with information to call CRU detectives at 240-773-6620.
