DC Man Found Guilty In 2022 Shooting At Clyde’s Of Chevy Chase

A DC man was convicted by a jury of manslaughter and other charges related to a shooting last November at Clyde's restaurant in Chevy Chase.

CHEVY CHASE, MD — A Washington, D.C. man was convicted in Montgomery County Circuit Court on Wednesday of attempted voluntary manslaughter and other charges in connection with a 2022 shooting at the Clyde’s of Chevy Chase restaurant on Wisconsin Avenue.

A jury found David Lee Brown III, 29, guilty of attempted voluntary manslaughter, first-degree assault, and use of a handgun. He faces up to 55 years in prison when he is sentenced on Nov. 20, according to the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office.

“This was a violent act at popular establishment that placed people in danger, including innocent bystanders,” State’s Attorney John McCarthy said in a statement. “We thank Montgomery County Police for their work leading to the arrest and commend Assistant State’s Attorneys Mary Herdman and John Lalos for handling the prosecution of this defendant.”

In the early morning hours of Nov. 14, 2022, the incident began as an altercation between Brown and a woman. Several people came to the woman’s defense and a physical altercation ensued, according to the state’s attorney’s office.

Brown pistol-whipped one male victim and shot another man. The shooting took place outdoors, but the fight then continued inside the restaurant, sending employees running for cover, according to the state’s attorney.

The victim was found by police laying on the ground in front of the Clyde's restaurant when they arrived on the scene. She was taken by Montgomery County Fire and Rescue personnel to Suburban Hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound.

The victim and her coworkers at Maggiano's Little Italy restaurant in D.C. went out together that night to Clyde's, according to a statement of charges against Brown. One of the victim's co-workers and Brown had argued throughout the night at Clyde's.

At about 12:20 a.m. on Nov. 14, a colleague of the victim and Brown were fighting over a gun. The victim started throwing punches at the back of Brown's head as the two men continued to wrestle on the ground. The struggle suddenly stopped when the victim fell to the ground motionless after getting shot, according to the statement of charges.

Brown then stood up with the gun concealed, walks to his car and flees the scene in his car, according to the statement of charges.
