Crews Begin Demolition Of Old Marriott International Headquarters In Bethesda: Report
Crews have started demolishing Marriott International's former headquarters building on Fernwood Road in Bethesda, according to a report.
BETHESDA, MD — Crews have started demolishing Marriott International’s former headquarters building on Fernwood Road in Bethesda now that the company’s employees are fully moved into the company’s headquarters in downtown Bethesda, according to a report.
The old Marriott headquarters site at 10400 Fernwood Road is being redeveloped into a huge retirement community, Robert Dyer @ Bethesda Row reported Tuesday.
The retirement community, The Grandview by Erickson Senior Living, is under construction by The Whiting Turner Contracting Company. It will be located on 33 acres on the grounds of the former Marriott headquarters.

The community will include up to 1,300 independent living units, 210 assisted living and memory care units, and 50 skilled nursing units with public amenities spaces on ground level. This first phase will include 248 independent living units and various amenity spaces and is scheduled to open in late 2025.
Last September, Marriott celebrated the opening of its new global headquarters on Wisconsin Avenue in downtown Bethesda. In 2016, following discussions with the state and Montgomery County, Marriott announced plans to stay in Maryland and move from its Fernwood Road headquarters to the new location in downtown Bethesda.
