Fire Department Holds Blood Drive in Memory of Father, Son
The blood drive at Station 16 in Silver Spring will be held Nov. 2.

The Montgomery County Fire Department will hold its annual blood drive on Sunday, Nov. 2, in honor of two Silver Spring firefighters -- a father and son duo -- who passed away.
Carlos Alfaro and Carlos Alfaro Jr. both worked at Fire Station 16 in Silver Spring, according to WJLA. Carlos Alfaro Jr. died in 2006 from Hepatitis C, and his father died three years later from multiple myeloma.
Sister and daughter Eliana Mann told WJLA her brother and dad always put others first and couldn’t wait to get better every time they were sick, so they could get back to work.

“During their illness, both of them received multiple blood transfusions, which allowed them to recover in most cases and go on for some time,” Fire Chief Stephen Mann told the news station.
The blood drive will run from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Station 16, 111 University Blvd. E, Silver Spring.
