Last Chance: Trawick Prize Submission Deadline

Artists, submit your work to the regional juried visual art competition.

Calling all artists!

April 1 is your deadline to submit an application for The Trawick Prize, a juried visual art competition established in 2003 by Bethesda community activist and philanthropist Carol Trawick.

Prize money totaling $14,000 will be awarded to the winners, and the work of selected artists will be featured in September in a group exhibition at Bethesda's Gallery B.

The deadline to enter is April 1. Notifications will be mailed April 26.

Up to 10 finalists will be selected. Of those, the artist named best in show will be awarded with $10,000; $2,000 will go to the second-place winner, and $1,000 to the third-place winner.

A young artist may be awarded $1,000.

The competition, organized by the Bethesda Urban Partnership and the Bethesda Arts & Entertainment District, is open to artists in Maryland, Washington, DC, and Virginia. Original two-dimensional and three-dimensional art pieces may be submitted, including painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, fiber art, digital, mixed media and video.

This year's jury includes Artisphere photographer and visual arts coordinator Cynthis Connolly, Maryland Institute College of Art associate dean of design and media studies Alexander Heilner, and Dr. Vesela Sretenović, senior curator of modern and contemporary art at The Phillps Collection in Washington, DC. 

The non-voting chair of the competition is Fraser Gallery owner Catriona Fraser.
